McKinney Child Support Attorney
Texas Child Support
Child support is necessary for parents who have greater custody of children to provide necessary basics. If your financial situation substantially changes and a modification is necessary, it is recommended to talk to an experienced family law attorney who can provide valuable legal insight about what you are owed. There are many factors that are considered when deciding the amount and whom will pay child support. Elements essential to the child, or children’s, well-being are contributing factors to the amount paid such as:
- Food
- Clothing
- Shelter
- Medical Coverage
- Education Related Costs
Though the single largest factor that determines the amount of child support is the paying parent’s income and the number of children. Once this is set, the paying parent will continue to provide child support until the child or children reach legal adulthood. However, the amount paid can be changed at any point, through child support modification, due to a large increase or decrease in the paying parent’s income.
General Child Support Payment Percentages
While certain circumstances and requests can significantly alter these payment percentages, a paying parent can expect to pay a rough amount based upon the following:
- 20% of net resources for one child
- 25% of net resources for two children
- 30% of net resources for three children
- 35% of net resources for four children
- 40% of net resources for five children
